The skeleton key

People didn't lock their doors at night or when they went away. Most people were very trusting of others. They never gave a thought to lock their doors when they were gone. And you didn't hear of houses being broken into and burglarized. The funny thing about it is that you could go to the hardware store and buy a skeleton key for 10 cents that would unlock 80% of the doors. So I guess in the long run it didn't matter if you locked your doors or not. It was such a quieter and more civilzed time in or life.
