Nothing like a glass of whole milk with breakfast.

Milk came in glass bottles. Milk was not homogenized then. The cream would separate from the milk and rise to the top. You would either shake the milk before serving to mix the cream back in or siphon the cream off the top and use it for whipped cream or other rich desserts. The top of the bottle was closed with a heavy paper disk. If you put the disk back on but didn't push it down securely as the milk would warm up to room temperature it would expand and eventually the disk would pop off and fly up into the air. This was cheap breakfast entertainment.
