Car Club Pictures
For the last 7 years, I've been involved directly with two different car clubs. McDonnell Douglas Ford Club Between 1995 to 1998, I was the founder and president of the McDonnell Douglas Ford club. I was originally planning a Mustang club, but with the huge assortment of the Supercharged Thunderbirds, SHO's, Probes, Lightning's, Cobras & Saleens - not to mention all the previous 1960's & 70's Ford Performance cars - I figured we shouldn't exclude those vehicles which made our current cars possible. When I left the company in 1997, Mark Alto took over reigns of the club. We did one big event a year, called the Angeles Crest Fun Run. We'd meet up at the Rose Bowl, then drive up to California's State Route 2 (the Angeles Crest Highway) for a day of adventure and breathtaking vistas. Stops include the Mount Wilson Observatory and lookout vantage point, the twin tunnels near the Route 2 & 39 junction and then to Newcomb's Ranch for a late lunch.
SVT Cobra Owners Association - Southern California Chapter (SCOASCC) In 1999, I was fortunate enough to purchase a used 1995 SVT Cobra Mustang. Within a few months, I joined the SCOASCC club. This club has around 200 members, primarily spread out from Santa Barbara to San Bernardino to San Diego. After 4 months with the club and some discussions with senior members, I was invited join the club officers, as the Events Coordinator. Then I accepted a spot on the Board of Directors. After almost a year with the club, I offered to take over the Newsletter editor position, which I filled until January 2002. I was poised to take over as President until I had a job change at KPMG, and was offered a spot on the Supervisory Committee for Southern California Edison Federal Credit Union (SCE FCU). Needless to say, I reluctantly passed up the President spot. However, I accepted the president position for 2003, and let's hope I don't butcher it! The club attempts to do events each month, with our largest event being the annual car show, dubbed "Show Up and Show Off". For the last few years, this show as held at the Orange County Fairgrounds. 150 cars and thousands of spectators browsed the various SVT and Ford vehicles. The other big show was the annual Knott's Fabulous Fords Forever show, hosted by the several dozen Western US Ford clubs, including SCOASCC. This event is one of the largest car shows in the world, with close to 2,000 cars on display and around 50,000 spectators flocking to the show. This show is held each year in April. Click here to learn about this year's show. Finally, I've helped one of the newest Mustang clubs in Southern California get up and running. The So Cal Wildhorses (www.socalwildhorses.com) is the genesis of Mr. Hans Van Ness, who finally did something about the lack of a proper Mustang Club in the San Gabriel Valley of California. His persistence has paid off handsomely, as the club boasts around 100 members, and has arguably the finest club web presence (website & bulletin board) in the USA. This group of enthusiasts are dedicated to the club, performing many of the vital club functions to ensure everything runs smoothly, and they love to get together for the various functions on the filled calendar. Drag Racing, Bench Racing, doing dinners, parties, road trips, car shows, etc - you name it - they do it! And they sport some of the finest, fastest and wildest Mustangs & Cobra's on the road.
