Friends in California!
The Cuberly's
Andy Cuberly and I have been friends since 1986. We were both stationed at Naval Air Station (NAS), Memphis (which is actually in Millington, Tennessee). He was in the same avionic school that I was, abet 2 classes behind me. We had seen each other in the hallways, and I knew his 1982 Mustang GT from the Illinois license plates (See my Car page for more info on my Mustang love). When I finished class, I took almost a month off to visit home, as I knew I'd be going to California - so weekend trips back to the Quad Cities weren't going to be an option anymore (see the Party Page).
When I arrived in California, I was first sent to MCAS El Toro for initial processing, and then off to Camp Pendleton. I had noticed Andy's car driving around the base, so I figured he must have been stationed within the Marine Air Group (MAG) 39 as well. There were 6 or 7 squadrons that composed MAG-39, with hundreds of aircraft and thousands of Marines. But as fate would have it, I was assigned to the same squadron. While processing into my squadron, Helicopter Marine Transport (HMT)-303, I noticed Andy's car in the parking lot. So, while the squadron was trying to figure out who I should be roomed with, I mentioned Andy's name. It took a few months for us to get together, but we did and we were roommates for the remainder of our time in the Marines. Since that time, we have been Best Men for each other, and we have worked together at 5 different jobs (the US Marines, KPMG, McDonnell Douglas, Audio Concepts and Black Angus) and in 9 different positions within those companies.
Andy and I even met both of our future wives at the same party! In Temple City in 1986, he met Stacy Renko and I met Roxanne Daniels. The girls grew up living only 4 blocks about, attending the same schools and knowing each other (but they didn't hang out).

The Gage's
One of Roxanne's closest friends is Laura Couch. Laura and her high school sweetheart, John Gage, were dating steadily when I started dating Roxanne, and we spent alot of time with them. They now have a family and live in Glendora, just a few miles away from us.
John and Laura are more like a brother and sister to us, as we have done everything with them. Camping, romantic getaways, trips, days at the beach, shopping, holidays, church, birthdays, etc, etc, etc.

The Allison's
Another of Roxanne's good friends growing up was Deanne Kantrim. Deanne married Charles Allison from Arcadia. They too live a few blocks away from us in Glendora now. Just like John & Laura, we've spent considerable time with these two, and consider them among our dearest friends.

Dan,
Andy Cuberly & I were roommates in the United States Marines. Here's
me & Dan posing in the Camp Pendleton barracks, circa 1987.
Unfortunately, Dan and his lovely wife Sharlene have parted ways back in
1995. We haven't heard much from them since they left to Tennessee.
Call us sometime Dan or Sharlene (or daughter Ashley)!
