Yuma Deployment

The extent of my time in the Corps was spent between training (2 years) and the fleet (remaining 2 years).  Being in a training squadron, we never really got to deploy to those strange and exotic places that the vast majority of Marines get to.  Our only deployment was to lovely Yuma, Arizona.  Here, we pounded the desert mercilessly over a 2 week period, twice a year.  Yuma has some of the best year round flying in the world, with excellent atmospheric conditions.

We consumed alot of adult beverages here, as there wasn't much else to do, and the work schedule was grueling.   I spent half my time on night shift, which translated into 4 PM to whenever the work was done or (more appropriately when day crew arrived).  Still, we found time to get into mischief.   Yuma was home to alot of visiting squadrons.  We saw Israeli Kfir aircraft, Harriers, CH-53 Super Stallions, F/A-18, A-4's - all in the same day.
