Michigan Trails

Back

Biking in Michigan is growing in rapid progression. Fortunately for Michiganders, the RTC (Rails to Trails Organization) has undertaken major efforts to provide miles and miles of trails through out the state for the cycling enthusiasts - Regular Biking & Mountain Biking.
Myself, being primarily a "Roadie" had quickly found that only the Bravest of Brave even attempt to ride the roads themselves in MI - When it comes to roads within the Metropolitan areas, MI is not very cycling friendly! To many cars, to much traffic, all going to fast, all with attitudes!
Within the Metro Detroit area, there are several parks a "Roadie" can make excellent use of - Edward Hines as an example, and we also have a 44 mile paved trail along I-275 (Sadly it is not being maintained and several sections have fallen into disrepair).
In effort to increase cycle-ability, not only in MI, but within all states, I proudly belong to both - The League of Michigan Cyclist and The League of American Cyclist. These organizations promote Safe and Friendly cycling environments. Each organization works with the Government to make cycling a continuing safe sport within each state and across the nation for all of us - Join yourself and help the continuing efforts.
For the cycling hearty, there's TrailLink.com. TrailLink.com is a Rails-to-Trails Conservancy Web site dedicated to providing detailed, up-to-date information on trail access, services and activities. The site helps you take advantage of trails for pleasure, exercise, or transportation in your own community or anywhere around the country. Through its extensive database of current trail locations, reviews and contacts, as well as interactive, user-friendly trail information and resources, TrailLink.com is your primary resource for trail activities and travel. Check out RTC's TrailLink.com Web site and search through 1,174 trails nationwide.

Cycling is a sport for the entire family to enjoy - Together. Cycling provides a quiet grace, a serenity, allowing an individual an opportunity to openly experience all around them. While actually touring, a cyclist can see and experience the land in ways motorists couldn't even imagine. Simple rides around the neighborhood or local trails provide not only much needed exercise for most of us, but a feeling of being as well! I say - "Get on a bike and pedal your ass off" (literally speaking)!
