Where we came from

Tony is a native of Canada, where he lived and worked until mid-1994. He was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada to a career Air Force family. As a result he moved regularly and by age 16 had lived in over a dozen homes. By the time university rolled around, he was living in Ottawa, Ontario so attended Carleton University from where he graduated in 1966 with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. From 1967 to 1994, he lived in the Montreal area where he shared in raising a family (one boy, one girl) and ran a magazine publishing business. From July 1994 to July 1997 he was a resident of Lakewood, California, but in July 1997 moved to San Diego, California, where he and Jody still reside, to take a new job. Tony retired in November 2004 and is busier now than while working full-time.

JoAnn (Jody) is a native Californian and has lived and worked in the greater Long Beach area all her life. She was born in Torrance, California, but soon moved to Lakewood where she lived until her first marriage. Educated at Mayfair High School and Cal State University - Long Beach, she became a school teacher in1968. After graduating from CSLB, she became a high school teacher, a job she still has. While living in LaHabra, she raised a two boys and a girl, became a Mary Kay representative, and earned a Real Estate license. She moved to San Diego in July 1998 after a year of Tony commuting, then proceeded to commute full time for a year herself. Although retired from full-time teaching, she still commutes 100 miles each week to teach continuing education part-time.

We were introduced by mutual friends in 1991, after both being divorced. After a two year long distance courtship we were married in July of 1994 (twice in fact, first in July and then again in August). Faced with the prospect of living 3,000 miles apart and based on an analysis of future opportunities, Tony decided to move to California rather than have Jody move to Canada. In July of 2010 we celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary.
