Day 83
Trudge 2000 Southern Headquarters, Atlanta, GA
1002.6 miles

Enjoyed last night at this most excellent hiker hostel (though a bit far from the Trail.) The proprietor, Rick, did not have a good night. He's actually just returned this morning from the emergency room and it looks like he may have to undergo surgery to remove his gall bladder.

On the way back from Springer, I requested that Rick stop at a supermarket so I could get some Ben & Jerry's to celebrate. Rick got a pint as well, though he usually keeps to a pretty strict low-fat diet. Before I retired for the night, Rick had gotten up, clutching his stomach, and said he was going to lay on the couch for a while. While I slept blissfully unaware, Rick's wife Connie had to drive him to the hospital.

My bad!

With all this going on, they certainly don't need a houseguest around, so I just need to figure out how to slip out of town without inconveniencing them. I'll write again when I get to Maryland.
