TXC and TCB, T. Coraghessan Boyle
A few pictures of me with my mentor, author T. C. Boyle. Visit
his site at http://www.tcboyle.com

Manhattan, NYC

Tom came to read from his new book of stories,
After the Plague (Viking).
He read the story "Killing Babies." Afterwards
I stood in the autograph line (near the end) and had my picture taken with
him. It was a rather somber evening as the events of September 11
were fresh in everyone's minds. In fact, the windows of the store
faced south over Union Square, towards the site of the former World Trade
Center.
Hmm ... I don't look any better in this picture than in last year's
picture (below).
As a small side note, this is the same place I saw Joe Jackson reading
from A Cure For Gravity, and told him
I knew T. C. Boyle (who had given a blurb for the dust jacket) as he was autographing
my copy. Mr. Jackson's publicist seemed quite interested in this fact.
Location: WBAI-FM
Studios, Wall St., Lower Manhattan, NYC

Right before Tom Boyle was about to go on the air on WBAI-FM, I
grabbed my camera and handed it to the Arts Director, Matt Finch. I
said to Tom, "I hate to act like a fan, but how about a picture?" Tom,
being a veteran of autograph tours, book signings, and other publicity events,
grabbed me and spun me around, saying, "Don't take it in front of the window!
It won't come out!" Then Matt Finch snapped the picture. Tom
was immediately whisked into the studio. So the pose you see here was
held for less than 5 seconds.
Note: Tom Boyle (R) is wearing a promotional T-shirt for his new
novel, "A Friend of the Earth." He is holding a can of Coca-Cola which
he requested right before going on the air for his interview with Matt Finch
of WBAI-FM 99.5.
