Village of Hoi Ann,

Vietnam

Item Number—P06

This was taken on December 31, 1999, on one of the quaint streets of the 19th century French Colonial village of Hoi Ann, Vietnam, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  This village was one of only a few that was spared of U.S. bombs in central Vietnam during the “American War,” as the Vietnamese call it.  As residents do not have the resources to maintain their brightly colored homes and businesses in the traditional French Colonial style, the weather-worn and aged coloring of the walls give the town a special character.
