A major attraction of the Shrine Garden at the Heian Shrine in Kyoto, Japan, is its pink cherry trees with many long-hanging twigs which produce beautiful pink cherry blossoms in the spring. This Shinto shrine is called “the Shrine of Peace and Tranquility” and was built in 1895 to celebrate the 1,100th anniversary of the founding of Kyoto, the ancient, imperial capitol of Japan. |
