The Pinnewala Elephant Orphanage near Kezalle, Sri Lanka, is home to the world’s largest collection of captive elephants. They range in age from newborns to elderly adults. Many were rescued from the wild after being orphaned or injured. Adults earn their keep by helping with various chores, and infants are born on an average of one per year. The newborns are arguably the cutest elephants one will ever seen. This close-up photo of an elephant’s face, with it’s tiny eye and wrinkled face, provides an unusual view of one of nature’s noblest creatures . |
