Copacabana,

Bolivia

Item Number—P122

Copacabana, a destination for many religious pilgrims and tourists, is located on the shores of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world.  The Moorish-style cathedral in the main plaza is the home for the patron saint of Bolivia, Our Lady of Copacabana, also called the Dark Virgin of the Lake.  Outside the cathedral, within sight of these crosses, people bring their decorated, “new” vehicles to be blessed by the priest, a custom patterned after religious traditions of the indigenous Bolivian people
