Key West,

Florida

Item Number—P138

As the southernmost city in the continental United States, Key West it is only 90 miles from Cuba and 150 miles from Miami at the end of the Florida keys.  It is and has been a retreat for artists and writers – including Ernest Hemingway and Tennesee Williams.  No visit to Key West is complete without a visit to the Ernest Hemingway home and museum.  Hemingway and his wife, Pauline, bought the Spanish colonial-style mansion in 1931, and wrote several works there including “For Whom the Bell Tolls”.  He and his family collected many cats, starting with “Snowball”. Currently over 40 of Snowball’s descendants live at the home, including “Archie” -- pictured here relaxing on Ernest’s bed.
