Fifty-one American drivers have participated in the Formula One World Championship (excluding the Indianapolis 500), beginning with Harry Schell at Monaco in 1950. Eddie Cheever made the most appearances (143) and also drove for the most teams (9).
More than a third of American GP drivers (18) entered only a single race, half of them in their home Grand Prix. And in less than two seasons (admittedly much longer seasons than years ago), Scott Speed was able to climb into the top ten with 28 races.
