This project is for all those with the surname Wade or a variant spelling such as Waid, Waide, MacQuaid, MacWade, McQuaid, and McWade.  As explained in the section "Using DNA for finding ancestors" the tests we use are on the Y Chromosome thus only males may take the tests.  Females have two X chromosomes while males have one X and one Y chromosome.  Females can participate by encouraging their male Wade relatives to join in the testing.  Your father, brothers, uncles, cousins, even son or grandson could provide the test sample provided the male relative has the Wade surname.  At that point you have access to all the results and the male relative who provided the test sample need not be further involved.  

Below are the costs for tests charged by the testing company.  (The administrator of this surname project has no economic interest in or relationship with the testing company.)

Y-DNA: Male 12 Marker Test = $99

Y-DNA: Male 25 Marker Test = $124

Y-DNA: Male 37 Marker Test = $149

Y-DNA: Male 67 Marker Test = $248

The 12 Marker test is limited to proving relationships.  The 25, 37, and 67 marker tests can be used to prove or disprove relationships as well as assist in measuring the distance between those relationships.  You can always upgrade later to the 25 Marker test for a fee if you choose to get the 12 Marker test first.  However, you are encouraged to go for at least the 25 marker test immediately.  

We will be using the Family Tree DNA testing lab which can send test kits anywhere in the world.
