Henry Hosch was born 23 Dec 1813 in Fairfield District, SC, and died 7 Jul 1862 in Richmond, VA, son of Mathew Hosch and Mary Hill. He married Matilda Camp, 4 Aug 1837 in Coweta Co., GA, daughter of Edmund Camp and Mary Reynolds. Matilda was born 7 Oct 1818 in GA, and died 7 Aug 1893 in Jackson Co., GA. Henry Hosch moved to Walton Co. GA with his parents when he was a child and moved to Jackson Co. by 1850.

Henry Hosch served in the Creek-Seminole Indian War, in Capt. Lucas' Company of Col. John Williamson's 2nd GA Volunteers, Walton Grays. He enlisted at Monroe, Walton Co., GA on 10 Jun 1836. Records on file in the National Archives state that Henry Hosch was 5' 10" tall with blue eyes and dark hair. His widow received a pension for his service. He served as Judge of Inferior Court of Jackson County, GA 1861. Henry was a member of Rockwell Masonic Lodge, Jackson County, GA.

Henry Hosch served as a Lt. in Army of the CSA, 16th GA, Co. B, Capt A. M. Reynolds, Col. Howell Cobb Regiment. His widow received a pension for his service. Henry died of pneumonia in Richmond, VA but body was brought back to Hoschton, Jackson County, GA for burial in family cemetery. Body later moved to Hoschton City Cemetery where he is buried with his wife and several children.

After the War, Henry and Matilda's sons subdivided their land and sold off lots creating the town of Hoschton, GA. These sons were also instrumental in developing the town by encouraging the railroad to come through the town by building the railroad depot and giving right of way through their land. The Hosch brothers also were instrumental in building the school and donated the land for the town square and city cemetery. They also were the proprietors of Hosch Department Store where the first post office for Hoschton was located.
