STEPHEN SHELL, son of WILLIAM SHELL & AMELIA ELLIS , was born 07 May 1754 in Surry Co., VA and died 11 Dec 1822 in Newberry District, SC. He married JANE ELLIS on 07 Apr 1778. JANE, daugher of JOHN & Mary ELLIS, was born 06 May 1754 and died 12 Jul 1822 in Newberry District, SC. Stephen and Jane are buried in Old Tranquil Methodist Church Cemetery, [1706 McCormick Highway, Greenwood, SC] 8 miles NW of Newberry, SC.

Gauntt, Jacob of Newberry District for the sum of $500 paid by Edward Finch and Stephen Shell and David Owens (Trustees) sold 1A of land on Bush River south of Gauntt’s land and joining Scot’s and Myer’s lands for use as a meeting house for the Methodist Episcopal Church with the full and free benefit of the springs of water adjoining the ground mentioned. STEPHEN SHELL BIBLE
Stephen Shell, one of the eleven children of William Shell of Brunswick Co., Va.
(during Revolutionary War) came from Newberry District, South Carolina, to
Chickasaw Co., Mississippi, about 1840. William Pettus Shell, a descendant, gave
the Bible to Dr. Clytee Rebecca Evans, 1208 Second Avenue North, Columbus, Mississippi.
Bible is in very poor condition and some of the family records may be gone.

Will of Stephen Shell
In the name of God Amen, I Stephen Shell of the District of Newberry and State of South Carolina being infirm in body, but Sound and disposeing mind, for which I am thankfull to God do make and publish this my last will and testament.
In the first place I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary E Lofton one negro girl named Delsey, one horse, one bed & furniture, & one cow and calf being now in the pofsefsion of my said Daughter to her and her heirs for ever.
2rd.. I give and bequeath to my son George Shell one negro boy named Isaac, one bed and furniture now in his possession and one hundred dollars in cash to him & his heirs forever, also one cow and calf.
3rd.. I give and bequeath to my son Ira Shell one negro boy named Joseph which said negro he hath parted with since I gave him pofsefsion, one horse, one cow & calf one bed and furniture already in his pofsefsion to him & his heirs forever.
4th.. I give and bequeath to my daughter Milly Yeargain one negro boy named Peter one horse one cow & calf one bed & furniture already in her pofsefsion to her and her heirs for ever.
5th.. I give and bequeath to my daughter Susanna Brown, one negro boy named John Wesly one horse, one cow & calf, one bed & furniture already in her pofsefsion to her and her heirs for ever.
6th.. I give and bequeath to my son Daniel Shell one negro boy named Handy, one horse one cow & calf one bed and furniture already in his pofsefsion to him and his heirs for ever.
7th.. I give and bequeath to my daughter Fanny Bailey one negro girl named Sally one bed & furniture one cow and calf one horse already in her pofsefsion, to her & her heirs for ever.
8th.. I give and bequeath to my son Francis A. Shell one negro boy named Reubin one bed & furniture, one horse, one cow & calf, none of which are in his pofsefsion except the Horse, and fifty dollars in cash, to him & his heirs for ever.
9th.. I give and bequeath to my son Stephen Shell, one negro boy named nathan, one bed and furniture one horse one cow & calf and Two hundred and fifty dollars cash none of which articles are in his pofsefsion except the Horse to him & his heirs for ever.
10th.. I give and bequeath to my son Lemon Shell one negro boy named Eli, one bed and furniture one horse one cow & calf and one hundred & fifty dollars in cash, none of these articles in his possession.
11th.. I lend my beloved wife Jane Shell all my Estate both real and personal not herein before disposed of dureing her natural life and at her death I will that the land and other property left to her dureing life be sold by Executors hereafter named, and the money thence ariseing after paying the pecuniary Legacies above devised to some of my Children, be Equally divided among all my said children and that the negroes & their increase left to her dureing life be appraised by three persons to be appointed by my Exer's and equally divided among my childred according to that appraisement, and that they cast lotts for choice, and last of all I hereby nominate and appoint my brother Hermon Shell and my son Francis A. Shell executors of this my last Will and Testament hereby revokeing all other wills and testaments by me made.
