JOHN WILLIAMSON was born 1754 in Ireland, and died 09 Oct 1831 in Butts County, GA. He married MARGARET "PEGGY" LESLIE (widow of Mr. MITCHELL) 1779 in VA. She was born 1758 in Ireland, and died 1828 in Jackson County, GA.

Roster of Revolutionary Soldiers in Georgia, compiled by Mrs. Howard H. McCall, 1941, page 208, states that John Williamson was born in Ireland and died in Butts County, GA in 1831. Served as private in Virginia Troops.
1822
John Williamson was granted by Governor John Clark on November 12, 1822. This was known as the 1821 Land Lottery. At the time of the Grant the land was in Henry County (lot 250, section 8) but this part later became Butts County. John Williamson was granted 250 acres. At the time of the Grant, John Williamson was living in Scotts District, Jackson County, GA. He left this land to his grandson Nathan Williamson.
John Williamson is buried in the Knowles Family Cemetery. His Will and Estate Inventory is recorded in the Butts County Courthouse Records. Will was signed Feb. 25, 1831 and recorded Nov. 7 1831.
He was a weaver and dyer and wrote a book about the subject.

My estate to remain in the possession of my wife during her natural
life or widowhood, for the maintenance of herself and the maintenance
& schooling of my 3 youngest children. I have already given to my
four children who are married property to the amount of $60 each, and
to my son William a horse saddle & bridle worth $80. To my three
younger children, as they marry or become of age, bed & furniture &
other articles to value at $60, and my son Francis to receive a horse,
saddle & bridle worth $80, or $75 in cash, whichever is more desirable
to him, in addition to the $60 in bed, etc. These last gifts to not
take place until my wife’s death unless it can be done without
inconvenience to my wife & remaining children. At the death of my
wife Elizabeth Power, my two sons William Williamson Power and Francis
Power to receive all my landed or real estate in this county to be
equally divided between them. My son William W. to have a Rifle gun,
and Francis Power a shot gun. All my personal property that remains
to be sold and equally divided between all my children. The part
going to Elizabeth T. David to be kept by her during her natural life,
and at her death to be divided among all the rest of my children.
Should Elizabeth David marry again, she shall dispose of her share as
she thinks fit. If my wife Elizabeth should marry again, my personal
property to be sold and divided among all my children, and my wife to
have a child’s share and her dower, or third in the land I hold in this
county. Then all my land in this county to belong to my two sons.

I John Williamson of said State and County being of ___ and weak in body but of sound mind and disposing memory do ordain this my last will and testament as follows.
I bequeath my soul to God who gave it and my body to my maker and to be buried at the discretion of my surviving family and as to my worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me. It is my will that it be disposed of in the following manner.
It is my will that all my Just debts be paid out of my Estate and that all my Estate both real and personal right and credits be left to the discretion of my wife Winney Williamson during her natural life And whereas I consider that my children Nathan C. Williamson, John L. Williamson, Nancy King Sarah Aderhold Eliza Nabors Levinia Lowry Mary Appleby and Andrew J. Williamson doth already had an equal portion of my estate so far as I was possession of at the time they received it and have had the use of it since.
I desire that my two sons Jasper M. Williamson and Cranston B. Williamson have each three hundred dollars to make their portion equal with the rest and after the death of my wife Winney Williamson it is my will that all my Estate that is left in her care shall be equally divided between my children Micajah Williamson Adam A. Williamson LaFayette Williamson James C., Williamson Winney Ann Williamson and George W. Williamson or any of them who may be living at the time or their offspring if they should have any to be thrown into lots and drawn for by the above named children and I hereby appoint my wife Winney Williamson my Executrix during her life and my sons Micajah Williamson and Adam A Williamson my Executors after her death to see that the whole of this my last will and testament be executed and I hereby revoke and annul all ______ in the ___ time before signed other wills and testaments heretofore made by me in testimony of which I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 18th day of October 1849 in presence of the following witnesses.

+(Following sent by Jerry Legg, July 1999.) Deposition by John W Moon. John was John Williamson Jr's nephew. In the deposition John W was talking with John Jr at the gravesites. He mentions walling Uncle Billy or Willie grave. He also mentions his mother was buried there (Sally Willamson married Bolar Moon). He also mentions his grandmother was buried there( Margaret Mitchell Williamson. John Jr grave was marked later and may be marked incorrectly.

Listed in Gwinnett County 1860 Census with his wife Elizabeth 67, Walton 23, Olivia TUGLE 25, Francis Tugle 5, James Tugle 3. Adam owned 20 slaves.
Served in War of 1812 as a private in Captain Joseph Whorton's Co. at Fort Floyd, in 1814.
