I am interested in history, and have always enjoyed a good historical simulation game. The best, in my view, are some time-tested wargames from Avalon-Hill:

Advanced Squad Leader: detailed World-War II tactical combat (not that I really know how to play!).

Advanced Third Reich and Empire of the Rising Sun : WWII strategic simulation, for which I contributed to the design of an excellent Play-by-Email aid: Chris Goldfarb's Warplanner. (I especially wish my friends to note the detailed contours of microscopic pacific islands on the ERS drawn map, if they download Warplanner. Yes, that took a lot of time.)

I would play more games and include more links, if I had more time and more playing partners.
