The Wingate, Swinton, Charles, and Kelley families grew up in Darlington County, South Carolina. The records show they were residents from 1850 to 1895. The Swinton's and Wingate's are listed in the 1870 census as residents of Swift Creek Township.

Children from these families married and moved to the State of Arkansas after 1890. They settled Little Rock and in Clark County near the city of Gurdon. The Arkansas and Darlington families kept in contact over the years, but now have lost contact with each other.

The decendants of the Arkansas families now number over 500 people, and a few who still live in Clark County. Many though have migrated to Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, California and Texas. Family reunions of the Arkansas decendants have been held every one or two years since 1983.
