...And Now Stories About
"the Other Half"

It's not unusual to see posts on the fan club message board about the "other half" of Toby's fan base:  the guys.   As the posts below show this is not just a chick thing.   Because the message board is available only to fan club members I am sharing a few here with permission of the posters.

You can find out more information about the message board, known as the Fan Forum, by visiting the Fan Club Information page on this site.

Toby is my mid life crisis (I know that's a nic, but it sums it up for me perfectly too). He makes me forget my age. It's like having a grown up crush. I simply adore him.

My husband doesn't care. He's a fan (ok, not like I'm a fan), but he gets a kick out of watching me behave like a kid. His hobbies are golfing, fishing and reading. Mine is Toby (I have others, but they pale in comparison). Seems like Toby is a compilation of my hobbies, music, cowboys, good times.

My husband deals with it! He got mad about my little obsession for a while...then he figured it wasn't doing any good, I was going to the shows without him! So, he finally said...If you can't beat 'em, join'em....he has been to every show with me since!

My hubby is MORE obsessed over him than I am!! Sometimes I have to say, "can you NOT be Toby tonight"?? "Can we talk about something "other" than Toby"?? and "Can't I go to this concert with just the girls"

You guys don't know how good you have it

Leen

Obsessed with Toby? No Way! You're the only one I am obsessed with, baby, and if dressing up like that cowboy from Oklahoma gets your attention and captures your affections then all I can say is:  "How Do You Like Me Now, Baby?"

Mine is funny sometimes. Whenever he hears anything Toby when he is at work he will call me and let me know. One day he was watching Oprah Winfrey (He even likes Desperate Women) and he called me up and said, "Your Man's on Oprah." I busted my butt to change the channel and I died laughing. It wasn't Toby it was Clint Black. I was laughing and said, "That's Clint Black. Toby is BIG AND BLONDE. Clint is small and dark." It was just too funny. .

So my mom and I finally broke down and told my dad about the Toby concert at Gillette. We got the tickets the day they went on sale through the fan club and have kept it a secret since then. We were gonna suprise him the morning of the show but he kept asking us if we planned on going every time he heard about it on the radio. He is so excited about it.

We told him on Thursday night at about nine thirty and he went on about it for over a half hour after that. I was on my way up to bed and my mom and I had a silent discussion with each other over whether we should tell him. We did and he was like, "No Way!" Then he had to figure out how far from the stage our seats are cause we got twelfth row in the center.

I got the newsletter from my church today. My pastor's colum this month was about TIME magazine honoring the American Soldier ... he had this to say (and I will take credit for introducing him to Toby!!)

"The country singer, Toby Keith, has another hit on his hands. 'American Soldier' is rising on the charts for country music. The song is also a tribute to the American Soldier and is somewhat unique in that it is sung in the first person. One verse stands out among the others:

'And I will always do my duty, no matter what the price
I’ve counted up the cost, I know the sacrifice
Oh, and I don’t wanna die for you, but if dyin’s asked of me
I’ll bear that cross with honor, ‘cause freedom don’t come free.'

All this focus on the American soldier made me pause to think about what we as 'Christian soldiers' know about our faith. Good news came to the world in an almost unnoticed way, in the gift of a baby born in Bethlehem. We know too that ‘freedom don’t ever come free.’ It requires sacrifice. We believe that it was ‘for freedom that Christ has set us free’ (Galatians 5) and it was Christ’s death that gives us life. He bore that cross for our sake and through his sacrifice we enjoy life and freedom and peace."

Wonder if Toby ever has a clue all the ways his songs impact people! Just thought I would share...

...my brother is pretty conservative (a preacher). My mother had talked to him on the phone a few nights ago and asked what he was up to....He was watching Toby on CMT (the 60 Minutes with Dan Rather thing)....she said she didn't know HE was a Toby fan too. My brother said, "I am now!!"

A guy at work asked me about Toby back in August. He has really enjoyed Toby's music, this is his first taste of any country music. He has since gone out and bought more of Toby's CDs. He says he listens to Toby while he is cooking dinner every night. I will have to tell ya, this guy is 58 years old, retired, and pure irish. But, Toby just tickles him the right way. And when his new wife gets a hold of his Toby CDs he has a hard time getting them from her.

Ok, I know that back in July I said I was going to wear my Toby shirt to bed but I never did until last night.  My hubby posts on the CMT board & this is his post I found this AM! LOL!!!
Eileen

"So last night after hearing about the Jersey Girls (Eileen and Bridget) exploits, Bridget goes home and leen and I have some fun going back and forth here on the (CMT) forum.  Leen finally goes to bed and I follow shortly after I turn everything off and lock everything up.  I'm thinking, she probably missed me, and maybe things might get interesting tonight.  I open the bedroom door and there she is, sweet as an angel laying in bed all covered up with blankets.  I'm imagining that tiny little nighty with all the lace and seeing her eyes slowly open as she lays a long mooshy kiss on me.  I slowly drop my clothes and gently slide my 6'3" frame into bed.  The little light is on and I can just barely see her all snuggled up in the covers.  I pull back the covers to admire that nighty and all thats in it or not in it and RRRRiiinnnggg, reality calling!  I see that Rascal from the Radio staring right back at me, brillo pad on his chin and all, yeah thats right, the Big Dawg, in my bed, all over MY wife, between her and me, TK, the "Boy", Toby Keith, right there in my bed staring at me!   Shes wearing that dang souvenir T-shirt with a big picture of TK right there staring at me.  I am supposed to live like this?  Me, Toby and Leen in bed together? I don't think so!  I'm pretty open and up for most things outside of pain and public humiliation but me, Toby and Leen together, No.  There isn't enough room in our kingsize bed for that kind of nonsense.  I won't share her!  I protest, I rant and I rave, No I won't share her with Toby!  Toby must leave!  Then she pulls her trump card and says at least she didn't wear the Toby Keith T-shirt inside out (Toby's face next to her heart)!!!!  What!!!  Thats outrageous!!!   Grounds for divorce for sure!!!  You can bet when that T-shirt comes off it will mysteriously disappear. :0  LOL-Rick "

I have been a Toby fan since "Should've Been A Cowboy". It wasn't until recently that my husband made a big purchase for a hobby he wanted to take up and felt so guilty that he did that he told me to get online and get the tickets and a hotel for the next Toby concert near us (my first concert to see Toby). I did and at the end of August we were in Mt. View, CA watching Toby. My Honey isn't jealous of Toby, he likes his music and talent as much as I do. I am fully committed to my hubby and have been for over 20 years. I am just a true blue Toby only fan. My hubby wants me to find any concert near our home and get front row tickets, he and I found something we can listen to and see together.

My husband recently watched the CMT inside fame episode on Toby which a friend taped for me. He had never known anyting about Toby before, just knew COTRWAB [Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue] & BFMH [Beer for My Horses]. He didn't realize the depth of his talent & his background. A few days later he read some of the info I had gotten on Toby off of the forum & the bio & stuff. I found my husband's take comments interesting.

My husband said that maybe one reason Toby didn't have such success in other careers (the oil bust happened & his football career didn't take off as he might have liked), was that he wasn't where God wanted him to be. God had given him good genes with his father's sense of humor and his mother's musical talent. But Toby pursued other things. He figured God wanted Toby to write & sing & entertain & just didn't let those other things work out for him. Once those other things didn't work, he concentrated fully on where the Lord wanted him to be & then success started coming to him. It still didn't come easy, but it came nonetheless.

So maybe all that heartache & trying times in the beginning were really just to put him where the Good Lord wanted him to be all along.

I thought his insight was pretty interesting. And if Toby keeps sharing his talent & writing & performing, who knows how long & how fast this train will be going? Well I for one can't wait to be along for the ride, enjoying his concerts & CD's for years to come.

I'm glad to hear that Toby is a wife & husband thing for Warriors. It just adds to the relationship. My husband teased me that it was time to do a "Toby Dinner & Movie". We actually went upscale -- dine-in at Burger King. It was raining so no drive-in movie. We headed to a pre-season hockey game. Love hockey, no problem.

I knew Toby hooked my hubby before the first concert he and I attended. Now whenever Toby comes on the radio in the truck or in the kitchen, he cranks it up. He even sings, Who's your Daddy? to our kids (Of course they are his children, they are the spitting image of him!) My hubby talks about meeting Toby. My hubby says he would talk about deer & turkey hunting and Football. I figure oh, great, we will have the pleasure of meeting Toby, and I will not get a word in edge wise!

You know Toby's won him over big time when.... ".....he's reading the Cowboy Chronicles [Fan Club newsletter] on the way back from the mailbox as he walks in house announcing what is in it...........LOL"

You know Toby's won him over big time when....

1. ...you're riding in the car together, a Toby song comes on the radio and HE beats you to the volume control knob, cranking it up.

2. ...as you're backing out of the garage, you flip on the CD player and notice "Unleashed" is playing....last time you were in the car it was "Greatest Hits, Volume 1" [guess who had the car the day before?!?].

3. ...you're out of town and he calls your cell phone leaving a message....he ends the message by playing "Courtesy" (you smile to yourself as you imagine him listening to COTRWB, one of his favorite songs).

Well, my husband has always enjoyed Toby's music. He always pays attention when Toby is on TV. I rule the TV at those times. But after I took him to see Toby on Sunday, something has changed.

We finally got to have dinner together last night since the concert and he started the conversation with saying that he thought Scotty was really good and a talented guy. He said he liked Blake Shelton also and thought he did a great job. But he said that he thought it was so awesome, how when Toby took the stage he just had the entire audience in his command. He sang so well and was such an awesome entertainer. He likes the fact that he writes the songs, performs the songs and sounds so great live! He said he's a true entertainer. Then this morning my husband gets up and he's singing, "I like my truck" from I Love This Bar! And continues the rest of the verse! Oh and I forgot, the other day we had a house full of people and the game was on TV and he comes running in the kitchen, saying "Toby, Toby, Toby!" It was the new Ford Truck commercial. We hadn't seen it on TV yet!

Should I be scared that my husband likes Toby for the same reasons I always have? (Well most of the same reasons. I can't let him in on all the reasons). Or should I just enjoy it and be glad for it all? I have to admit, I am enjoying watching him realize how good Toby really is!

Mine thinks Toby rocks. I have taped everything I could find on t.v. and he has watched it many times. We came back from our vacation early to go to the L.A. concert after driving 6 hours. Then he said lets go to Vegas next week to see him again so we rode our Harley to the concert the next Friday and listened to Toby all the way there. I could see him singing every song. When we got there he had gotten us 4th row tickets and stood the entire time singing every song. I love my husband!

My husband is having as much fun as I am with my "Toby addiction". We first saw Toby at our state fair(08/27/02)three days after an ER trip for hubby via rescue squad; and two days before the early birth of our 3rd grandson. Hubby & grandson used the same hospital.

When all tests were negative I asked if it was safe to go 50 miles and attend Toby's concert. The doc looked as if I must be nuts. We realized as empty-nesters that life isn't "should haves". We took a 3day weekend for Toby's Bonner Springs concert and had a blast. We called it our "Museum and Redneck Tour". Hubby does sing-a-long with actions for ILTB. Real hoot.

You bet I love my #1 man! Toby will always be #2--Da Man.

I was just wondering how many of your husbands out there have secretly caught the TOBY bug? I was just watching TV with mine, and I said "Check CMT". My Toby vibe worked because the Total Release Special is on. Well, he changed the channel on me because he said he was watching something else. That's ok, I have it on tape. Anyway, I came in to check the forum, and what do I hear??? He's out there right now watching the show!! He said his other show had a commercial on, but it has been an awful long commercial....you know what I'm saying?? This isn't the 1st thing he's done, either. I'm starting to wonder. I think he's more excited about Hershey this weekend than me (well, I don't know if that's possible).

I knew my hubby was hooked when the Gnat (Natalie Maines) flashed her "homemade" T-shirt. He was more angry then I. You can bet I was livid! For a few days afterward he would tune in the radio for various talk shows about the shirt. Now when a Toby song comes on, he'll cross the room to turn up the volume.

My hubby hunts & golfs so he admires that about Toby too. He said if he ever met him he would talk about hunting in OK.

OMG! I can't believe it!! I just got a dozen red roses for the 30th anniversary of our first kiss. Now we do celebrate this anniversay every year & reminisce about that moment (I was just 14) but I have never gotten a dozen roses, not only that but he asked them to deliver them late in the afternoon (since that's when it happened) & when they weren't here by 4:30 he panicked & went out to buy me more & you guessed it the ones he ordered arrived while he was out. He came home & said "I don't see any flowers from Toby here- just flowers from me" "Where's Toby's flowers?" at that moment Toby comes on the radio. You should have seen his face priceless

Here is Rick's version of the events as he posted to the CMT message board the same night:

"Hey, Toby!   The wife listens to your music all day long, taps away on the computer talking Toby this, Toby that, on your fan club website at night.   She has all your CDs and won't let me or the kids touch any stereo, radio or other music emitting device. BUTTTTT today is my day!   Its our anniversary and I came home with a card and flowers as well as had twelve long stem red roses delivered.   I will take her out to dinner and spoil her rotten.   All I have to say is:   Where are your flowers?   Big Dog!   Where is your card?   You have that great voice, all the love songs, the big bucks, stardom but I got the goods pal!   She's mine! all mine! It will be me who is the object of her affections at least until your concert in Delaware next week. (sorry I get a little jealous sometimes)

The thing that really pi$$e$ me off is after I come through the door, give the card and flowers and see the flowers that were delivered I start brow beating her...."Where are Toby's flowers???" I say and start looking all over and don't you know that b*&%$# starts singing over the radio in the other room. A guy can't catch a break for anything. Toby I hate you, not really, but I sure am jealous."
